Washing & Drying

• Machine Washable: Unlike real down, synthetic vests are generally safe for the washing machine. Use a front-loading machine or a top-loader without a center agitator to prevent the vest from getting snagged or torn.

• Cold Water Cycle: Use cold or lukewarm water on a permanent press or delicate cycle. High heat can actually melt or "glaze" synthetic fibers, causing them to lose their loft (puffiness).

• Low Heat Drying: This is the most important step. Tumble dry on low heat. Synthetic fibers dry much faster than natural down, and high heat is the quickest way to ruin the insulation.

Maintenance & Performance

• Skip the Fabric Softener: Never use fabric softener or dryer sheets. These products leave a waxy coating on the synthetic fibers that reduces their ability to trap heat and can interfere with any water-resistant coating (DWR).

• DWR Refresh: If water stops beading on the surface of the vest, the Durable Water Repellent (DWR)coating has worn off. You can spray on a garment-safe waterproofer (like Nikwax) after washing to restore it.

• Spot Cleaning: For small marks, use a toothbrush and a tiny bit of dish soap. Synthetic fabrics are non-porous, so most surface stains lift off much easier than they do on wool or cotton.

Storage & Daily Care

• Avoid Over-Compression: While synthetic vests are great for travel, don't leave them stuffed in a tiny compression sack for weeks. This can eventually "crush" the fibers, meaning they won't bounce back to their original puffiness.

• Hanging vs. Folding: Unlike wool sweaters, a synthetic vest is perfectly fine on a standard hanger. It is lightweight enough that it won't stretch out of shape.

• Fixing Leaking Fibers: If you see a small piece of white insulation poking through the fabric, do not pull it out. This can make the hole bigger. Instead, reach from the backside and try to pull the fiber back inside the vest, then rub the fabric to "close" the weave.
