Washing & Drying

• Hand Wash Only: Unless the tag specifically says "Machine Washable," hand wash in cool water. Agitation from a washing machine can cause "felting," where the fibers lock together and shrink the garment.

• Wool-Specific Detergent: Use a pH-neutral wool wash (like Eucalan or Woolite). Avoid regular detergents, as their enzymes can break down the natural protein fibers of the wool.

• The "Towel Roll" Method: Never wring or twist a wet cardigan to remove water. Instead, lay it on a clean towel, roll the towel up like a sleeping bag, and press firmly to absorb the moisture.

• Dry Flat: Always lay the cardigan flat on a drying rack in its original shape. Never hang a wet cardigan, as the weight of the water will stretch the shoulders and lengthen the body permanently.

Day-to-Day Maintenance

• Pilling Management: Knits are prone to "pills" (small fuzz balls). Use a battery-operated fabric shaver or a wool comb regularly to keep the surface looking crisp and new.

• Never Use Hangers: Gravity is the enemy of knitwear. Always fold your cardigans and store them on a shelf or in a drawer. Hanging them will cause "shoulder nipples" and overall stretching.

• Odor Removal: Since you shouldn't wash wool often, refresh it by hanging it in a steamy bathroom (without touching water) or placing it in the freezer for 24 hours to kill odor-causing bacteria.

Storage & Protection

• Button Up: Before folding and storing, button the cardigan completely. This helps the garment maintain its symmetrical shape and prevents the placket from waving.

• Moth Prevention: Store with cedar or lavender sachets. If storing for the season, place cardigans in airtight plastic bins or vacuum-sealed bags to ensure pests cannot reach them.

• Repair Snags Early: If you see a loose thread or a snag, use a "Snag Nab-It" tool or a crochet hook to pull the thread back to the inside of the garment. Never cut a loose loop, or you will create a hole.
